Fedor Lubensky told us how he visited the Bay of Kotor and shared some beautiful photos.
The bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska or simply Boka) is among the 25 most beautiful bays in the world, as you can see in the photo. 🙂
The views are amazing! We took a boat ride down the bay to admire St. George’s Island. There is a beautiful cypress grove and the ancient Benedictine Monastery of St. George. Although tourists are not allowed there.
The island called Our Lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela), where the church of the same name is located. It is noteworthy that the island is man-made (!). It is open to the public, so we were able to see the church and listen about its history.
City of Perast
Due to a good location of the Bay of Kotor, Perast has been considered a city of sailors for a long time. It is known that even Peter the Great studied maritime business here. This city was also the residence of pirates.
Today Perast is also famous for its prices. Living here, by Montenegrin standards, is very prestigious.
City of Kotor
Kotor is famous for its rich and very ancient history. It is the only city in Montenegro that has never been conquered by the Ottoman Empire, thus ensuring its reputation as a heroic city. It has many ancient churches. And lots of cats as well!
Indeed, lots of these cute animals walk through the streets of the old city, representing the legendary Montenegrin laziness and carelessness.
If you want to feel the breath of centuries and whispers of ancient buildings — walk along the streets of old Kotor! Ancient times here are intricately intertwined with modernity.
In ancient houses, there are offices of notaries and lawyers, creating a “bridge”, which you can use to transport yourself directly to medieval Europe.
City of Risan
Montenegrin laziness seems to have reached its climax here. 🙂 Everything in this city is intended for rest and doing nothing. Its inhabitants are serene and very hospitable. Risan is also old and beautiful, with picturesque surroundings.
The most famous sight of Risan is the ruins of a Roman villa. The image of the god Hypnos on the mosaic floor is the famous “Roman mosaics”, the remains of frescos.
The beauty of these places cannot be described. This is exactly the case when you can’t fall asleep without thinking about the see and the mountains you’ve seen earlier.
